Warehouse Gym | Our Blogshttp://www.warehousefit.com/KohanaPHPMy Final Results
So at the end of 6 weeks trimming down here are my final results. I'm fairly pleased with them to be honest, I could have fine tuned my diet slightly more if I really wanted to and if I had not been led astray a couple of times and "MADE" to drink alcohol at parties (shame on you people) the results could have been slightly better, but in all I'm pleased. The most important thing to ask yourself when embarking on anything like this for trimming down is: Is this sustainable? the way I train my clients is not to just get results there and then it's to show them how easy it is to have a sustainable fitness regime, then when you want to trim those extra few pounds down you can, and when you want to relax a bit and party a few times why not? as long as your diet and exercise are spot on 80% of the time chill out the other 20% and when you want to get those extra bits off it only takes a short time of getting your diet and exercise right 100% of the time.

Scroll down to see mt original photo. When I get back from my holiday I will get them put up side by side in my testimonials so you can see them next to each other and compare.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my progress, if you have any questions regarding anything I have done over the last 6 weeks or anything to do with diet and exercise just drop me an email andy@warehousefit.com but dont forget I'm living the high life for the next two weeks in Egypt! Woo Hoo! :0)

One final thing that I said in my first post of the 6 weeks. If your overweight or out of shape just remember "Its only fat" you can always get rid of it.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/my-final-resultsFri, 27 Aug 2010 17:16:46 GMTAndy's blogNot Long Now Peeps!
So its nearly the end of my 6ish weeks of trimming down and setting a good example. In the last weeks I have had a couple of Birthday parties to go to so Happy Birthday Lauren and thank you for the invite, and Happy Birthday Rich. Obviously at a Brithday party people drink alcohol and for those of you who know me know that it would be impossible for me not to have a drink so I made the sensible choice on both occasions and I was drinking wine, (from the bottle I think later on one evening whilst pretending to be an umpa lumpa!) anyway this was still going to let me enjoy the evening but also cut the amount of empty calories I consumed dramtically. Although it will have set me back a bit on both ocassions I really didnt want to miss out which if you are the same the best thing to do is make more sensible options while drinking but also not letting it effect your whole weekend by having a big greasy fry up the next day, you just need to push on with your healthy regime the day after.

I will be taking my final photo over the weekend and I will have it posted up by the very latest this Bank Holiday Monday the 30th August, something to look forward to eh? maybe not but if your bored at work on Tuesday stop by and have a look.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/not-long-now-peepsWed, 25 Aug 2010 13:52:43 GMTAndy's blogPIZZA PIZZA PIZZA!!
On Saturday I made us (if I say so myself) a gorgeous pizza. Fresh grilled tuna, low fat garlic soft cheese under the garlic and onion tomato base, sweetcorn, parmesan and olive oil it came out perfect. Also if your wanting to eat healthy making home made pizza is quite good for you. There was nothing on there that would be bad for me and its a great way of getting in some of your portions of veg for the day.

The same goes for curry, why not pan fry some chicken breast and onion, add a few spices like garam masala, cumin, ground corriander, ginger and a few fresh chilis and garlic, throw in a tin of tomato's, cook for around an hour and finish off with some freshly chopped corriander to put on top when finished, serve it with around 30g of basmati rice with some peas in and you tell me whats so bad about that? maybe the 5 pints and the naan bread to go with it!!
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/pizza-pizza-pizzaTue, 24 Aug 2010 12:55:47 GMTAndy's blogBoxercise Level 1 Begins!
Our new 5 week course of Boxercise starts on Monday 20th September at 6pm. The course does have limited spaces so please book early if you are interested.

Boxercise is a fun and excellent way to have an all over workout without realising how hard you are actually working. Everyone who has taken part in boxercise in the past has commented about how much they have anjoyed it, but dont take my word for it have a look here:

www.warehousefit.com/testimonials/boxercise
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/gym/2010/08/boxercise-level-1-beginsTue, 17 Aug 2010 13:18:19 GMTGym updatesNo Piccy
Yes that's right no piccy for you yesterday. After thinking a little ( dont worry I only said a little my head is still in tact but yes I do think.....sometimes) I decided I would make you wait until the end now to see what results I achieve. I know I know how hard it is for all you women out there (and Rupert) not to see me flash the flab each week but it will make it all the more exciting in the end. Yes I said looking at me with my top off is exciting! and who says I hold a high opinion of myself?
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/no-piccyFri, 13 Aug 2010 10:20:05 GMTAndy's blog2 Weeks In
2 weeks in and here we go with me looking shocked! ha ha I dont have a clue why! also has anyone noticed my wonky right hand side due to an old shoulder injury from rugby a few years back? You will notice the wok is gettinng slightly smaller at the sides but this is where the hard work begins. Anyway like I said I would pop in a little bit about supplements. As I mentioned before you must remember supplements are just a supplement to your diet and nothing should replace food. I have been taking:

Sea Kelp, this is a great source of iodine and helps you have a healthy thyroid.
Milk Thistle, this is just a wellbeing product and helps with a healthy liver.
CLA which is a form of good fat to help burn fat.
CEE a form of creatine that helps with the first ten seconds of exercise during weights sessions and aids recovery between sets.
Evening Primrose Oil, for my mood swings..... haha no its again another form of good fat to help burn fat.

I am also using USN protein shakes that I take immediately after exercise to help recovery.

If you do want any further info on supplements please email me andy@warehousefit.com
Thanks for stopping by!
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/2-weeks-inThu, 05 Aug 2010 21:05:14 GMTAndy's blogStuffed With Salad
Now that's what I call a salad:

Wholemeal bread with olive oil spread (Slow releasing carbs, good fats)
Egg (Protein, good fats, small amount of bad fat)
Tuna with mayo and sweetcorn (Protein, small amount of good and bad fats, vitamins and minerals)
Carrot, Sweetcorn, Tomato, Peppers, Cucumber, Lettuce, Spring Onion (Loads of vitamins and minerals)

All I needed to do was add a bit of good fat in the form of olive oil and some flavour with balsamic vinegar! we had a perfectly balanced meal, the only problem is I made it for Martine and not myself, but she enjoyed it all the same.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/stuffed-with-saladWed, 04 Aug 2010 14:25:25 GMTAndy's blogGreat Massage
I had a great massage with Darren on Saturday afternoon. As you know I'm trimming down over the next 6 weeks and this means my exercise frequency and intensity has gone up, alot! this is all good and well but a very very important factor in exercise is recovery because this is the time when our muscles are actually becoming fitter. When you are doing hard exercise and as frequently as twice a day good recovery is essential. this is where massage really does play its roll, I will leave it to Darren to explain the in's and out's of how it works but basically a regular massage say once a week is superb for helping heal tired aching muscles and speeds up recovery tremendously. I always recommend massage to my personal training clients just for this reason.

So in future when you are exercising dont think of a massage as a luxury you should really think of it as part of your fitness regime. If you do want further informationn on how massage can aid your recovery go to www.holisticworks.co.uk
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/08/great-massageMon, 02 Aug 2010 08:44:58 GMTAndy's blog1 Week In
Here I am then 1 week into my 6 week trim down. Things seem to be going to plan but there is quite a bit to go yet so no slacking on my part. I have managed to deflate the tyre its just a matter of getting rid of that wok I have stuck on me.

My eating wasn't as exact as I would have liked today but circumstances wouldn't allow me to have it that way. I was personal training at 5AM so having my usual bowl of porridge was just not an optoin so the next best thing was a flapjack when I got to work. I then had a protein shake at 9 AM and a piece of fruit at about 10AM.

I trained my Chest, Triceps and Shoulders at 11AM for an hour had another protein shake and then had my lunch at 12.30PM

Lunch was well how do I say it? a bit wierd but tased quite nice! Tuna, avacado, spring onions, low fat soft cheese with garlic and herbs, 3 new potatoes and some fresh garlic all mixed together with a small amount of salad cream and tomato sauce......Yes I know what your thinking but it was quite nice to be honest and it contained everything I needed which is protein, low GI carbs and good fats.

This afternoon I had a tin of Mackerel and an apple

I then took a spinning class at 6PM and straight home for my chicken pan fried over a medium heat in olive oil with loads of veg and 30g basmati and wild rice with a tomato based sauce

Just before bed I will have a handfull of nuts..

The most important points to look at in my diet are:

Eating regularly about every 3 hours
Make sure you eat the majority of your carbohydrates earlier in the day and through lunch to make sure you have energy
Vary your good fats throught the day
If its inconvenient to eat find something its better then nothing. Protein shakes play a vital role here at times.
Always plan ahead.

I will be letting you know what supplements I am taking in my next update. But the one thing to remembber is supplements are what they say they are, a supplement to your diet food always comes first!

If you have any questions please feel free to ask andy@warehousefit.com or if you would like to read a bit more please take a look here www.warehousefit.com/resources

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend whatever your getting up to.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/07/1-week-inThu, 29 Jul 2010 20:42:00 GMTAndy's blogFatty Bum Bum!
So here I am in my unhealthy, unattractive looking state! after a week with the family in Wales oh and about 6 months of training , motivating, educating and advising others I forgot to actually do it myself. Like I said the key to getting back in shape is the overalll fitness. Because I have a tyre round my waistline kwick-fit may charge you £100 for this doesnt mean my fitness levels are low which is a mis-conception of alot of people. What it means in my case is because I enjoy food I have been eating the wrong things at the wrong times and in admission had one or two too many drinks of the waistlines enemy 'ALCOHOL'!

How do we resolve this? the first thing is we need to get my boyancy aid into perspective, "its only fat" thats all it is, I can reduce it or increase at certain times of the year but the most important thing to remember is that as long as its not affecting my health "its only fat" I can get rid of it with a small amount of effort. Anyone who has a high or higher amount of fat on their body needs to remember this, dont let it affect your state of mind or you have failed before you even begin.

Now what have I been doing? well this photo was taken Thursday 22nd July 2010 since then I have been training seperate body parts each day so Chest, Triceps and Shoulders ensuring I dont over work my tricpes. Back & Biceps again not overworking my biceps and then Legs. So I have 3 programmes that last around 30-40 mins and every other day I finish off with my Core work. I teach a spinning class 4 times a week do some punch bag work once a week and bike 30mins to work 2-3 times a week. It is important not to overtrain at the same time but like I said before, due to me keeping fit all year round my body is capable of doing this amount of exercise and burning high amount of calories.

My next entry will be about supplementation and diet. I will have a picture up next week to show you one weeks progress. Please remember what I am doing works for me and for most of my clients but we are not all the same and sometimes need to work out in different ways to suit your body and your lifestyle.

Any questions on what I am doing please feel free to email me andy@warehousefit.com

http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/07/fatty-bum-bumWed, 28 Jul 2010 07:28:45 GMTAndy's blogDont Panic Peeps!
Dont Panic (not that you are) I'm having a couple of problems with my photo upload (I'm too fat to fit) no, it just wont upload so the great guys at Design Junkie will be sorting it Monday and then you can see my Ahem! fine Ahem physique..............
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/07/dont-panic-peepsSun, 25 Jul 2010 10:18:14 GMTAndy's blogMy 6 Week Trim Down
Right I will be goinng on my jolly holidays to Egypt in about 6 weeks time. I do find when I go on holiday I always meet interesting people and the first thing they ask is "what do you do for a living?" now with this in mind it doesnt normally look good saying "I'm a personal trainer and gym owner" whilst I move my belly to the side so I can see my beer!!... so the way it it works is like this.

All year I stay fit by training 5-6 times a week but at the same time I tend to eat and drink what I like within reason. This allows my body to be capable of burning alot of calories during exercise but also at rest. I do store what I would deem to be a little bit more fat then I would like but it allows me to strike that life balance with exercise and my love for food and drink!

Then when the time arrives for summer BBQ's or beach holidays I tweak the diet, increase exercise intensity and all round begin to practice what I preach. I make short term goals of around 4-6 weeks which is easily manageable. The end result is that because my body is capable of burning vast amount of calories because I stay fit all year round I burn alot of fat in this short space of time and I do it correctly.

So why on earth am I telling you this? I am telling you this because I will be keeping a log on my blog (I should write poetry) of what exercise I have done and what I have eaten. This may not seem that interesting to some but if you were to take a look at some of my past personal training clients who embarked on a 6 week programme you will see some of the results that were achieved. The information and motivation they received cost £1000, I will be letting you see what it involves to trim down effectively for FREE! all you need to do is get yourself out and do what I will be doing.

I willl also be offering free advice to anyone who wants to ask any questions, if you would like to ask anything please email me andy@warehousefit.com I will do my best to answer as many questions as possible but time restraints may prevent me from answering from time to time, so I apologise in advance. I also recommend you take a look at the resources section where you can read the "diet to power exercise" article and the "Cardiovascular exercise" article these will help give you a kick start.

I will also post up photos of me from beginning to end, I would have put one up today but because I'm a bird brain I forgot my lead for the computer DOH!

Keep an eye on this blog or subscribe to the RSS feeds and you can have topless pictures of me sent to your email........on second thoughts maybe not ha ha! I will update as regularly as I can and to kick us off today looks like this:

Breakfast big bowl of porridge

Mid morning snack was a USN protein shake and I have to say t was gorgeus!

Lunch 2 sweet potato, tuna in small amount of mayonaise and a banana

Mid afternooon will be a tin of mackerel

Weights session around 4pm training chest, triceps and shoulders followed by about 20mins boxing and a protein shake.

Spin class at 7pm followed by chicken in a tomato based sauce with 30g basmati rice and loads of veg.

Just before bed at around 10pm a few olives and handfull of nuts.

So thats my day for today, I will try to add a little more detail in future for you but unfortunately I need to go work!
Thanks for looking and if you think a friend may be interested in this please forward the this link to them:

www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys

http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/07/my-6-week-trim-downWed, 21 Jul 2010 12:42:00 GMTAndy's blogSwimming Funnies
These are quite funny clips from www.fitness.tv have a look. Its always good to have local groups like this to visit the gym and see what really goes on. They were extremely enthusiastic which is great to see and very very well behaved. They are welcome back anytime it was a pleasure to have them here.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/06/local-cubs-visit-the-gymWed, 23 Jun 2010 21:37:05 GMTAndy's blogHalf Way Up Snowdon
This is the picture I took half way up Snowdon, we had already biked 20 hard miles to get there and were told we were about an hour from the top, we were also told it was very windy up there so go carefull when walking along the tops! During the day I burned over 7000 calories and my calculated maximum heart rate I should be able to achieve is 188 beats per minute, it actually got up to 217 beats per minute nearing the steep parts at the top.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/06/half-way-up-snowdonTue, 15 Jun 2010 10:54:14 GMTAndy's blogPacking my bags
What a fantastic challenge that was, one of the best workouts I have ever had. On Friday I had to pack alot of gear just for one days exercise because we were doing 3 different events, 40 miles biking, climbing the steep ascent of Mt Snowdon and canoeing 1.5 miles. Because of this you needed to make sure you had all the right gear and most importantly for me with my scatter brain DONT FORGET ANYTHING!
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/06/packing-my-bagsTue, 15 Jun 2010 10:48:25 GMTAndy's blogOooooh! Look at you!
Look at what we have got to try for 3 months! yes a vibration plate. For those who dont know what they are, they can basically give your body a 60 minute workout in 10 minutes. Now there is alot of crap flying about out there on the fitness market at the minute but in my opinion this is most certainly not one of them. The science behind this machine is very good and the theory of it to me is completely correct. Now dont think that these machines are new they have been around for years and I mean years its just taken someone with a bit of a marketing brain to get out there and sell it.

If you want a quick go just ask a member of staff, they will give you a demonstration and explain how this machine could help you. If you would like a full body 60 minute workout in just 10 minutes with an instructor its just £10 and let me tel you that you know about it when you have finished.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/gym/2010/06/oooooh-look-at-youWed, 09 Jun 2010 16:24:20 GMTGym updatesSnowdonia challenge
It's nearly here! During a 6 week personal training programme we test once a week at the same time of day under the exact same conditions, this allows us to see exactly what is going on in the body and how it is reacting to the changes in diet and exercise. Any good personal trainer knows you wont get it right first time all the time, and what works for one person wont work for another so regular fitness testing is an excellent way to adapt to any sticky situations that may arise. So here are Charles' latest results.........

A further fat loss of just over 4lb! which is now a total of just over 17lb fat loss by the middle of week 5.

Muscle mass has just risen by 0.2lb which is a muscle mass gain of just under 3lb since the start, this is ideal due to the fact that gaining lean muscle and losing fat is very difficult, the most important thing is we dont lose muscle mass while in a calorie deficit.

Visceral fat rating down by another point and his metabolic age has further reduced by 6 years (the younger the better).

Again some more good news for Charles which he deserves with the amount of hard work he has put in, the final week is in sight and you will soon be able to see his before and after photos in my personal training testimonials section.

http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/new-testing-resultsThu, 29 Apr 2010 08:10:00 GMTAndy's blogBad Fat
Well we all know fat is bad for us, take a look at these nasty little critters....

http://www.activefat.org.uk
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/bad-fatTue, 27 Apr 2010 13:37:00 GMTAndy's blogWeek 4 of 6 results
So Charles Dixon has been doing a six week intensive personal training programme with me, we are now half way through and so far I am impressed with his motivation and he is doing exactly as I ask of him, in and away from the gym including his diet. If you look back on my blog you will see his first week results which I feel were a bit too good to be true but three weeks in we have further fantastic news:

Original Stats:
Fat Mass 3st 8.4lb
Muscle Mass 8st 12lb

Today's Stats:
Fat Mass 2st 9.6lb
Muscle Mass 9st 0.6lb

His metabolic age has reduced by 10 years! and we have also reduced his visceral fat rating by 2 points.

I have to say yet again what a great job he is doing and we are only half way! most people including myself would be happy with these kind of results in six weeks. Keep up the good work and lets see what we can achieve.

Watch this space for his before and after photos.

http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/week-4-of-6-resultsWed, 21 Apr 2010 12:05:00 GMTAndy's blogGym Night Out!
Well apparently those who remember the night say it was a good one! the restaurant food was really really nice and the one or two........alcoholic beverages also went down quite well.

For all of you who made it there thanks for a great night.
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/gym-night-outTue, 20 Apr 2010 07:59:00 GMTAndy's blogGreat Day For Biking
I'm not normally into this sort of thing but take a look at this video its great www.vimeo.com/10695528

http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/great-day-for-bikingThu, 08 Apr 2010 09:44:07 GMTAndy's blogFirst Weeks Results
Well we have just tested Charles for the results of his first weeks personal training with me. I have to be honest even I am suprised at the results we had this morning, we do need to take into account some variations in testing i.e. hydration levels etc etc but on the main all testing is done at the same time of day and when the body is in a similar state. Here are the main factors of what we found:

Body fat reduction of 7lb
Muscle mass gain of 5lb
Total Body Water up 2lb
Metabolic Age reduced by 2 years

These tests are carried on TANITA commercial body composition scales and as I say there may be some variations in results as nothing is 100% but to lose half a stone in fat in 7 days! Great work Charles keep it up
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/first-weeks-resultsWed, 07 Apr 2010 14:09:00 GMTAndy's blogHealthy Eating Boring?
Hmmmmm! last nights tea, Fillet steak (lean protein), tomato based sauce with onion, garlic and basil and mushrooms cooked in a dry non stick pan, new potatoes slowly roast in olive oil (carbohydrate and good fats), beans and steamed veg (vitamins and minerals).

A very well balanced meal and if I say so myself, was lovely. My compliments to the chef.........oh thats me!

Remember healthy eating is not boring eating!
http://www.warehousefit.com/blog/andys/2010/04/healthy-eating-boringWed, 07 Apr 2010 07:51:07 GMTAndy's blogPersonal Trainer Position
We have a position available for a freelance personal trainer at warehouse.
