  • Sickness absence costs business.

The CBI estimates that 175 million working days were lost last year at a cost of £13 billion:
    - For every employee that is absent another employee must take on their workload leading to inefficiency and work related stress
    - Simple measures to prevent and manage ill-health can reduce absenteeism which in turn improves productivity and competitive edge
    - Getting employees back into work after illness reduces the loss of experienced staff and the cost of recruiting new staff
    - Healthy working environments reduce employee absence through sickness and stress
    - Employees who feel cared for are more satisfied and perform better - reducing staff turnover and increasing productivity
    - Being known as an organisation that cares about staff enhances your reputation and can help attract staff and customers.

One simple way to reduce work related back pain is to have a strong core on your body, this can easily be achieved by a minimum of 2 hours exercise a week that is conducted correctly and for a specific purpose.

British Gas were one company that realised the health and wellbeing of their employees wasn't a gimmick but actually increased productivity and made the company more profitable.

One of the many factors they decided were to implement smoking cessation classes, healthy eating options in the canteen, massage sessions and fitness classes. In turn this led to a 12% reduction in absenteeism and a 25% reduction in staff turnover.

Imagine how much could be saved from absenteeism if it were to be reduced by 12% or the money you would save by not having to train 25% fewer staff each year. This is also backed up with a 12.5% increase in productivity.
